    Comprehensive HR Truck Driving Assessments

At Tokhi Driving Solutions, we offer two tailored pathways for obtaining your HR truck license, ensuring the best fit for your learning style and available resources at the time of booking.

    Vehicle on Road Test (VORT)

The VORT option is a single pass/fail assessment, conducted at the end of your training program. This method includes a practical evaluation where you’ll demonstrate your skills behind the wheel. If you prefer a structured, one-time assessment, the VORT method is perfect for you.

    Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A)

CBT&A provides a flexible, progressive approach to training. Throughout your course, your skills will be assessed step-by-step, allowing for re-training and re-assessment as needed. This method helps you develop your skills at your own pace with guidance from our experienced trainers, ensuring you are fully prepared to meet all the necessary requirements for your HR license.

    HR Truck License Course Requirements

To apply for your HR class licence, you must meet the following requirements:

    • Eligibility Based on Previous Licenses:
      • Have held a class C licence for a minimum of two years, or
      • Have held a class LR or MR licence for at least one year.
    • Age Requirement:
      • You must be at least 19 years old.

If you already hold a valid driver’s licence and meet the necessary driving experience for the desired licence class, you are permitted to operate a motor vehicle of that class under learner’s permit conditions and rules, without the need for a learner’s permit.

However, if you do not meet the minimum driving experience for the desired class, you may still be able to apply for a learner’s permit by:

    • Requesting an exemption or restricted licence, or
    • Successfully completing the first two components of a TILE course.

For most licence classes (except HC and MC), you can choose between a practical driving test (also known as a Vehicle On-Road Test or VORT) or a Competency-Based Training (CBT) course with an authorised instructor.

If you have a medical condition that could affect your ability to drive safely, such as diabetes, epilepsy, or a vision disorder, you may be required to submit a Certificate of Fitness to confirm you meet the medical standards for holding a heavy vehicle licence. This applies even if you have previously disclosed your condition to the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. Additionally, you might need to provide clearance from a relevant medical specialist before your heavy vehicle licence is issued.

What Can I Drive with an HR Class Licence?

Obtaining an HR (Heavy Rigid) truck licence with Tokhi Driving Solutions gives you the ability to operate a wide range of vehicles that exceed the limitations of a standard car licence. With an HR licence, you can drive heavy vehicles commonly used in industries such as transport, construction, and logistics. It opens up numerous career opportunities and gives you the skills necessary to drive larger, more complex vehicles. Below are the types of vehicles you can legally drive once you’ve obtained your HR class licence:

    Vehicles You Can Drive

With an HR licence, you are authorised to drive vehicles with three or more axle rigid vehicle with a, registered GVM(Gross Vehicle Mass) greater than 15 tonnes. This includes rigid trucks, buses, and special-purpose vehicles used in industries such as construction and transport. You’ll also be able to operate articulated buses with three or more axles. Additionally, you are qualified to drive special-purpose vehicles with a GVM greater than 15 tonnes. This type of licence also allows you to drive any vehicle included in the preceding licence classes, such as Class C vehicles.

    Towing with an HR Licence
An HR licence also allows you to tow a range of trailers, expanding the versatility of your driving capabilities. You can tow a single trailer (excluding a semi-trailer) as long as the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of the trailer does not exceed 9 tonnes and the combined weight stays within the Gross Combination Mass (GCM) limits as set by the Heavy Vehicle National Law (South Australia). Furthermore, you are allowed to tow farm implements and other types of trailers, provided they fall within the combination mass limits of the towing vehicle. Always ensure that your towing complies with the legal requirements to ensure safe operation on the road.

What are the eligibility requirements for the HR truck licence?
To apply for an HR licence, you must have held a Class C licence for at least two years or a Class LR/MR licence for one year. Additionally, you must be 19 years of age or older. If you don’t meet these criteria, you may need to apply for an exemption or learner’s permit.
